Siskiyou Co. Sheriff’s Office shuts down massive illegal pot grow

Neart Monatgue, CA.– Siskiyou County Sheriff John Lopey is calling it the largest illegal pot bust so far this year. “The magnitude of the marijuana problem here it’s just getting worse and worse.”

It happened on the 1200 Block of York Road near Montague Thursday morning.

Lopey said at least 300 pounds were packed and ready to be sold across state lines. “Close to a million dollars wholesale and probably close to sic to seven million dollars retail. 21 people were at the scene some attempted to flee but we apprehended them. 13 males and eight female suspects were arrested.”
Sheriff Lopey said they are from all around the country and thanks citizens for their tips that helped them find the five acre property.

Three to four of the acres had nearly 400 marijuana plants on it.”You break the law here and you come here to traffic and elicit drugs we’re going to find you, arrest you and put you in jail.”

Lopey said it’s no easy task to find 21 jail beds. The case is now in the hands of the Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office and they will decided if all of the suspects.
