Snow storm hits parts of Southern Oregon

Jackson County, Ore. –Snowfall hit parts of Southern Oregon Friday. Something Boy Scout troop master, Bob Bernhardt said he and his scouts had been waiting for.

“I think it’s great that we finally have some.”

Friday the National Weather Servicedeclareda storm watch in parts of the region through Saturday morning.Bernhardt said thesnow helped make their annual Snowcapades weekend possible.

“We need it quite a bit because of the lack of water and the lack of snow pack and I’m kind of concerned what’s going to happen this summer if we don’t get more.”

A concern for many in the Rogue Valley. The national weather reports that this has been one of the driest seasons on record.

But despite that, early Friday there was a glimmer of hope as ODOT crews were out in full force making sure the Siskiyou Pass was a safe zone.

“I like to say it’s a lot of risk management. We manage the risk then you don’t have to worry about a lot of people crashing so we try to keep the roads clear,” said Allen Walters with ODOT.

Keeping roads clear to ensure travelers like Bernhardt and his scouts enjoy the first winter storm of the year.
