Suspect pleads ‘not guilty’ to Bly Mountain murder

Bly Mountain, Ore. – 21 year old Richard Hamilton Tallent was arraigned Wednesday on murder charges.

He’s charged in connection with the murder of 61 year old Steven Edward Dann.

Marc Thomsen was Dann’s closest neighbor…

“He was one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.”

Dann called 911 on the evening of May 10th of last year to report that he’d been shot.

Police found him dead in his home on Bly Mountain, and later contacted Thomsen…

“They wanted to know if I knew him, and then they told me he’d been murdered.”

Several shots had been fired through the front door of Dann’s home.

Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge says Tallent was arrested after a police pursuit 2 weeks ago…

“That led to questioning Mister Tallent, which ultimately has now led to his arrest.”

Court records show Tallent told deputies he fired 2 shots into Dann’s home, and that Tallent conspired with others to commit murder.

“We have some, what we feel is some very strong evidence.” Says District Attorney Patridge.

Thomsen says the murder of his friend Dann has changed life on Bly Mountain…

“I’d never locked my house before he got killed – and I’ve locked it every day since. And a lot of people on the mountain started packing afterwards.”

The murder of Steven Dann is still an open investigation.

Tallent has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9th.
