A ‘Not Guilty’ plea is entered on behalf of a Klamath Falls teen charged with manslaughter…
15 year old Carson McDowell is accused of firing the shot that killed his friend, 15 year old Mason Tucker.
McDowell is also the only person who knows exactly what happened.
“We know that the two boys were home alone together.” Notes Klamath County Deputy District Attorney Sharon Forster. “And the only two that really know what happened are the two that were there.”
The shooting happened at Tucker’s home south of Keno on the 4th of this month.
While an autopsy showed that Mason Tucker died of a gunshot wound to the face, prosecutor Forster isn’t saying what kind of weapon was used…
“I will tell you that we have seized a weapon, it is at the crime lab.”
Henley High School student Robert Curran was one of several friends of the victim and the defendant who were in court for the arraignment…
“Mason was a good kid.” Said Curran. “He was very nice. Was always respectful. If you asked for the shirt off his back, he’d give it to you.”
The situation has hit students from Henley High School hard. While they’re curious as to what led to the shooting, they’re also reserving judgement…
“I’m not sure what to think.” Adds Henley student Devin Zimmer. “Carson was a good kid, didn’t seem violent. I wasn’t there, so I don’t really have the right to say.”
While prosecutors aren’t saying what happened, they claim the shooting was not accidental.
Carson McDowell’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday the 19th.
Prosecutors say that police reports on the case have not yet been completed…Deputy District Attorney Sharon Forster says it could be a while until those reports are available, even to the District Attorney’s office.
