Testing to Graduate

Starting this year Oregon high school seniors will have to pass a reading exam in order to graduate. The test will prove that students can read at a college level.

“If you don’t pass the test you don’t graduate,” said Medford School Board Chair Paulie Brading.

The standards get more demanding in the coming years. In 2013 students will have to pass both a reading and writing exam.

Come 2014, in order to graduate, students will be expected to pass a reading, writing, as well as a math exam.

Medford School Board Chair Paulie Brading said it’s all an effort to better prepare students for college and the workforce.
