Tips for icy road conditions

11.16 ICY ROADS CAUTIONJackson County, Ore.– During these cold months, the Jackson County Sheriff’s office is sending out a warning about road conditions.

They say storms in our area are already creating slick roads with snow on the ground in higher elevations in the county. Here are some suggestions for safe driving:

  • If you don’t need to be on the roads then stay home.
  • Pay attention to weather updates.
  • Avoid driving on roads and highways that are notoriously dangerous in winter. For example mountain passes on I-5, Highway 140, and Dead Indian Memorial Road, and avoid back country roads.
  • Tell someone where you’re going and the route you’ll be taking.
  • Stock your car with winter survival gear including gloves, boots, tire chains, blankets, water, and food.

Safe travels.
