UPDATE: Officials find body of missing Air National Guard pilot

Klamath County, Ore. — UPDATE:Officials from the 173rd Fighter Wing said Friday that an airman failed to report for duty, prompting an extensive search of Klamath County.

The body of the Airman was found by a ranger at Crater Lake late Friday afternoon in the Cleetwood Cove area.

The name of the airman has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

A search is underway in Klamath County for a missing pilot from Kingsley Field.

The 173rd fighter wing has confirmed that an airman failed to report for duty, and is considered absent without leave.

The name of the pilot, or his physical description has not been released.

Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah says search crews are looking for a silver Nissan Frontier with California plates.

Sheriff Skrah says teams from Klamath and Jackson County are working together on the search.

An air search is also underway.
