Update: Suspect arrested in Klamath Falls homicide

Updated (1/21 at 10:15 a.m.) Klamath County Major Crime Team have arrested 32-year-old Joseph Everett Woodward for the murder of Donald Clinton Black.

Woodward was arrested early Tuesday morning and has been charged with murdering Black as well as delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana, manufacture of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.

The Major Crime Team says Zachary Nathaniel Craig is no longer a person of interest in the case.

Officials say they are still looking for information from the public about a white four door vehicle, believed to be a newer model Honda Civic, leaving the area of Montelius Street shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Update (8:30 a.m.1/21)The person of interest in the murder investigation is in custody.

Police were looking for 24-year-old Zachary Nathaniel Craig in connection with the shooting.At around 9:30 Tuesday night, police arrested Craig on a bench warrant for a hit and run.

Police are now looking for a white compact car that was spotted leaving the scene of the crime.

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A search for a killer is underway in Klamath Falls and police are looking for a man they think may have clues.

The shooting happened shortly after 2 Tuesday morning just outside of a house on Montelius Street.

“Police arrived to find a body.” Says Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge. “The person was still alive when they arrived.”

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Donald Clinton Black, who died a short time later from his injuries.

The D.A. says Black had previous convictions for assault, sexual abuse, and drug charges.

“He currently had an outstanding warrant because he hadn’t checked in with the parole department.”

Patridges notes that police are looking for 24-year-old Zachary Nathaniel Craig as a ‘person of interest.’

“We just have multiple sources that have led to our need to speak with Mister Craig related to this investigation.”

Police are also looking for a white compact car that was spotted leaving the scene.

A State Police Mobile Forensics unit was called in to process the crime scene.

Property owner Paul McConnell says he didn’t know the victim…

“I knew that my tenants knew him, and they were a friend of theirs – besides that, I didn’t know him.”

“This comes as a shocker.” Adds co-owner Renee McConnell. “And hopefully, they’ll catch whoever did it.”

The Klamath County Major Crime Team has been activated, and is in charge of the investigation.

24-year-old person of interest Zachary Craig is described as a white male standing 6 foot 2, weighing about 180 pounds, with black hair, and blue eyes.
