Youth Empowerment Theater

Teens are being bullied at the SOU/RCC Higher Education Center but it’s not real, it’s staged and it’s part of a youth empowerment seminar. The one day conference offers this group a chance to explore situations many teens face in the hallways of their high school and in the hallways.

“I’m being a jerk i’m being a bully and that’s not fun and it’s hard for me to play that role as a bystander because i would jump in- try to stop it because i’ve been bullied, i know what that feels like and it doesn’t feel good.” It’s a scenario actor Rayne Bangsber says she know all too well.

It’s the first time this project’s come alive for Mediation Works and Lotus Rising project but they’re hoping it has a lasting affect. The goal to create young peacemakers. High school students from Grants Pass to Ashland participated. Organizers hoping these kids take the lessons learned back to their classrooms to create more peacemakers and teach others not to turn their backs when they see others being mistreated.
