Local residents going “blue” to show police support

Central Point, Ore. — The recent killings of police officers around the country is prompting residents in Southern Oregon to show their support for the men and women in blue. What started as a simple post on a Central Point social media page is now inspiring neighbors and businesses to get involved.

“It’s gotta be nerve wracking going out there every shift now just wondering if somebody’s out there to get them today, are they coming home tomorrow,” Rick Deates says.

For the month of August the community is rallying together to turn as many porch lights as possible blue, to show their support for the local police departments.

“A local law enforcement officer here in Central Point driving down our street at 3 in the morning and seeing that blue light, it’ll warm their heart, I know it will,” Deates says.
