Louisiana flood waters worsen

NC_flooding0816_1500x845Baton Rouge, La. (NBC News) — The skies may be clear and blue in Louisiana Tuesday but parts of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area are still underwater after this weekend’s unexpected flooding.

The death toll is now up to seven after days of historic floods that many were unprepared for.

At least 20,000 people were rescued, but 40,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed by the still rising water.

“A lot of people– the water’s up to their roof. So I just have to be thankful for what we do have and what we were able to save,” survivor Lindsay Ragin says.

What took just days to destroy will take months to recover in a community coming together to rebuild.
