Man dies in a possible drowsy driving accident

Hugo, Ore.- A man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on I-5 near milepost 66 Friday morning.

Oregon State Police and emergency workers responded to the crash in the southbound lanes at about 10:30 a.m. According to police,  a 2001 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 in the fast lane when it drifted into the slow lane and hit a 2002 Ford Explorer. The Ford lost control, ran into a guardrail on the outside shoulder, and flipped over it. The Ford rolled down an approximate 60 foot embankment before hitting a tree. The male driver was pronounced dead on scene.

After the collision, the Toyota was struck by a southbound 2007 International truck pulling double trailers. No one inside the Toyota or International truck were hurt.

Fatigued driving is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash. Names are being withheld pending notification of families. The slow lane of Interstate 5 was closed for several hours while the investigation was being conducted.
