Lakeland, Fla. — Florida police are issuing a warning about buying and selling anything online following a sale that turned deadly in Polk County.

The sheriff’s office said 21-year-old Jeffery Morrow Jr. went with a friend to a Family Dollar Sunday night. His friend had agreed through an online site to meet a buyer there. The buyer snatched the item and ran. Morrow chased the man and pulled a gun. The thief also pulled a gun and killed Morrow.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, “Here’s a clue. When somebody is wanting to buy something from you at 9:45 p.m. on a Sunday night, be suspicious.”

Judd recommends meeting in the lobby of your local police station for transactions. He is not releasing what the stolen item is, or the site it was listed for sale on.

He said Morrow recently moved to Florida from Pennsylvania.
