Portland, Ore. — Human remains found near a trail in the Columbia River Gorge have been identified as those of 21-year-old missing hiker Anna Schmidt, according to Portland NBC affiliate KGW.
On a Facebook post, Schmidt’s father said the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s office had identified the remains as Anna. The death was ruled by the M.E. as accidental.
The Portland Police Bureau said Schmidt was reported missing on October 19th. She was last seen by her roommate on October 16th. Officers said she is a hiker and recently bought a tent and backpack.
Police said her vehicle was found on Friday, October 21st in the Columbia River Gorge near the Bonneville Dam. A week-long search followed, and failed to turn up any sign of Schmidt.
