Out of control burn near Central Point

Central Point, Ore. – Firefighters responded to a fuel reduction burn that got out of control on Wednesday afternoon near Central Point.

According to Jackson County Fire District 3, a landowner was conducting the burn along Scenic Avenue when the fire moved into nearby blackberry bushes.

Fire crews moved back 100 yards to allow the blackberry bushes to burn off. Firefighters decided it would be more beneficial to the land owner for the blackberries to be destroyed in order to avoid another potential fire in the summer months.

Crews remained on scene after the bushes were completely burned to contain any hot spots.

Firefighters are reminding the public that today is a burn day, and smoke may be visible in the area.
