Grants Pass, Ore. – Police are looking for witnesses tonight after a pedestrian is hit and killed in Grants Pass early this morning.
The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said they responded to Redwood Highway/Highway 199 near Demaray Drive just after 6:30 Wednesday morning.
Officers found 83-year-old James Riegel lying in the street. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Officers say Andrew Poppitt was driving on Redwood Highway when he saw Riegel in the road, but couldn’t stop in time before striking him. Poppitt called 911 and is cooperating with investigators.
