Dispensary owners forced to pay taxes with cash

WEED MONEY

Ashland, Ore. — Without a solution in sight, the owners of several hundred marijuana dispensaries in Oregon will be paying their taxes this spring in cash.

Since it’s still illegal on the federal level, revenue from sales of marijuana, medical or recreational, cannot be deposited into banks. That means at some point in the next few months, large amounts of cash will be delivered to Salem.

Right now, only the state is able to take marijuana tax dollars and and put it in their own bank account so the IRS can’t do it.

Both senators Wyden and Merkley are working to get banks to accept cash from marijuana sales.
