Preliminary magnitude 6.4 quake rattles southern California

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 struck between Los Angeles and Las Vegas Thursday.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at about 10:33 a.m. about 85 miles east of Bakersfield, California.

KNBC reports the temblor was felt from its epicenter in the Searles Valley area to the Los Angeles suburb of Laguna Niguel.

No tsunami warning, advisories, watches or threats were issued due to the quake.
