New Red Cross bloodmobile coming to Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A new bloodmobile is now under construction, following completion of a major fundraising effort in Klamath Falls.

The current Red Cross bloodmobile being used in Klamath Falls is the third oldest still operating west of the Mississippi.

The unit has covered nearly 140,000 miles in its 25 years of service.

“It has served us very well.”  Notes Tom Hottman of Sky Lakes Medical Center.  “And has done a remarkable job.”

A brand new bloodmobile is now under construction in South Carolina.

Hottman adds that a $375,000 fundraising drive was kicked off by a $50,000 donation from Sky Lakes Medical Center in February…

“And then, leveraged that by making connections with other medical centers in the region, to encourage them also to participate in the fund drive.”

Hottman points out that the bloodmobile is used for blood drives in Klamath, Lake, and Deschutes counties…

“Blood drives bring that very special asset to help us take care of people.”

The new Red Cross bloodmobile is scheduled for delivery sometime in the late spring, or early summer of next year.

The Red Cross notes that summer months are the hardest for gathering blood.
