Klamath Falls, Ore. – Search and rescue crews from Jackson and Klamath counties are combing a section of the Klamath River canyon after a vehicle went over a cliff Monday.

The search began when a young man failed to report at the end of his shift Monday. “He was supposed to be off work at about 10 and did not report at the end of shift.” said Chief Deputy Martin Rowley of the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.

Rowley adds that co-workers at the John C. Boyle Dam went out looking for the man, “And found tracks that showed a vehicle had left the roadway.  They did a search of the area, found the vehicle down off the cliff – it’s about 300 feet down off the cliff.”

Search crews have been scouring the area looking for the missing man. “We’re not prepared to call it a death investigation at this time. We are still searching,” said Deputy Rowley.

Police have not released the name of the man. Rowley said, “The family has been notified, and if the family wants to release that information we will allow them to deal with that part of it.”

Police say they are treating the situation as an accident, and do not suspect foul play.
