Sexual abuse training for teachers

Medford, Ore. — Local teachers received training on what to do if they suspect a student is a victim of child abuse.

Around 80 teachers, members of the parent-teacher organization, and school staff attended the training held by the children’s advocacy center in Ashland today.

The CAC said one in ten children in the United States will be sexually abused before age 18. They add that 90% of abusers will be a family member or close family friend of the victim.

During the training, teachers learned the five steps to identify and respond to child sexual abuse. The five steps are learn the facts, minimize the opportunity, talk about it, recognize the signs, and
respond appropriately.
