Smoking airplane engine prompts emergency response

10.24 AIRPORT EMERGENCYMedford, Ore. — Scary moments at the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport after smoke was seen coming from the engine of a plane on the runway.

Around noon today, a small private plane was getting ready to take off when the pilot noticed smoke coming from engine. The pilot got off the runway and the airport’s fire department responded.

Nancy Jones was sitting on the airport’s observation deck and says she saw the whole incident unfold.

“It stopped in between the runways, and all the people got out of the plane, and then the fire truck came, the hood went up on the plane, and we watched it for maybe 15, 20 minutes,” said Jones

Airport officials say a broken fuse caused the smoke.

The two people in the plane were not injured and the incident did not delay any other traffic at the airport.
