Son of John Kitzhaber seriously injured in crash

Update (07/05 12:00 p.m.): Oregon State Police say Logan Kithaber’s injuries were serious, but he has been released from the hospital.


Lincoln County, Ore. – Police say three people are in the hospital after a car sideswiped a motorhome on Highway 101 north of Lincoln City.

According to Oregon State Police, a Toyota Prius was driving southbound on the highway at around 1:30 Monday afternoon. A preliminary investigation showed the Prius crossed the center-line and sideswiped a northbound motorhome, causing the motorhome to roll onto its side.

Police say the driver of the Toyota, 18-year-old Logan Kitzhaber, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the motorhome were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Portland NBC affiliate KGW reports Logan Kitzhaber is the son of former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber.

OSP said Highway 101 was completely closed for one hour, with intermittent closures for an additional hour while the crash was being investigated.

Police are urging any witnesses to the crash or to the driving behavior of the Toyota Prius to contact OSP at 503-375-3555.

The investigation is ongoing.
