Del Norte County, Cal.- Two hikers who were stranded by snow in the northeast corner of Del Norte County are safe.

Search and Rescue crews had been trying to reach the man, woman and their dog since Wednesday. The couple had hiked into the Devil’s Punchbowl area of the Siskiyou Wilderness Tuesday, but become stranded when snow fell overnight.

Six search and rescue crew members reached them Thursday afternoon. They originally decided to spend the night in the wilderness area, but instead hiked out Thursday night. The rescue operation ended about 10:30 p.m.
