Suspected drive-by shooter arrested in Ohio

Dayton, Ohio — The man wanted for shooting at a group of people on South Columbus Avenue in July is now in police custody.

After nearly four months on the run 19-year-old Geno King was arrested early Monday morning by U.S. Marshals in Dayton, Ohio. Shortly after the arrest, King told NBC affiliate WDTN that he “didn’t shoot nobody.”

“It isn’t his first run in with the law. It’s definitely a good case and good person to get off the streets,” Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Lupica said.

Medford Police Lieutenant Mike Budreau said King was the shooter in a drive-by on the 400 block of South Columbus Avenue in late July. Budreau said he fired several shots into a group of people. A bullet hit a young woman in the leg.

But this isn’t King’s first run in with the law. Budreau said when the crime took place King was on probation for his involvement in another drive-by shooting in Portland.

Budreau said it was gang related. The driver of the car, 19-year-old Jared Carvalho, was arrested the next day, but King left the state. He will be extradited back to Oregon and is facing four counts of attempted murder, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and assault.
