(NBC News) Taxpayers are getting a bit of a break this year. The filing deadline is next Monday, April 18th. The usual deadline of April 15th falls on Friday this year, the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington, D.C.
Surveys show most Americans have already filed their returns.
“86% of people surveyed in our recent poll have handled their taxes before March 31st,” notes Sara Skirboll of RetailMeNot.com.
A third of those surveyed by RetailMeNot used an online tax preparation program, while a fourth did it themselves.
The survey found more taxpayers than ever are e-filing their returns, especially the country’s 83 million millennials, who’ve become the favorite target of the tax preparation industry.
