(NBC News) — President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Steve Bannon, a hard right idealogue, as senior advisor is drawing widespread criticism.
Bannon, who served as Trump’s campaign chairman, previously ran Breitbart news, a website popular among the far-right of the political spectrum, including some extremists and racists.
He has come under fire for his so-called alt-right, anti-Semitic views.
Under Bannon’s tenure, the Breitbart News site pushed a nationalist, anti-establishment agenda.
Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway defended Bannon.
“He’s got a Harvard business degree, he’s a Naval officer, he has success in entertainment,” Conway said.
