CASA of Jackson County hosts annual fundraiser luncheon

casa luncheonMedford, Ore. — Children who have been abused or neglected often don’t have a voice when they’re under the protection of child welfare. That’s where a court appointed special advocate or CASA of Jackson County comes in. The organization showcased the work it does at an annual luncheon Thursday, where nearly 300 supporters attended. The organization operates primarily with money donated by the public, and staff say every dollar donated stays local to help Jackson County kids.

“We recruit and train every day citizens to become advocates for children who’ve been abused and neglected and find themselves under the protection of child welfare,” executive director Jennifer Mylenek says.

Last year more than 600 kids were paired with a CASA volunteer who act as the child’s voice in court. The organization needs another 100 volunteers. For more information or to get involved call 734-CASA.
