First ‘murder hornet’ nest found in the U.S. destroyed

(CNN) The first nest of giant “murder hornets” found in the U.S. has been destroyed.

Scientists with the Washington State Department of Agriculture used radio trackers and traps to locate the nest.

They then used a vacuum to capture them in a canister Saturday.

Giant Asian hornets are the largest insects of their kind and they deliver a potent venom when they sting.

They rarely attack humans, but a few of them can kill an entire honey bee hive in mere hours.
