Good Samaritan helps Missouri State Trooper

0718 Mo good samaritanKansas City, Mo. (WDAF) — It was a normal day on the job for Missouri State highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Becker.

He pulled over a car on Amity Road because its license plates were expired. “Just made contact with him, just like any other individual i stop. everything was normal,” said Trooper Daniel.

The driver, Robert English, didn’t have a valid license and Trooper Becker attempted to arrest him. But he says English seemed to have other plans, “We both went down to the ground in this area over here.”

Mike Long was driving westbound on 152. He said, “I looked over and I thought, ‘oh no!’” He immediately stopped his truck and turned around. “It was a one way obviously — went the wrong way. I broke a lot of laws getting here,” added Long.

Meanwhile, trooper Becker was starting to panic because he says English overpowered him and was on top of him. “I looked behind me and mike was coming up behind me,” said Becker.

Trooper Becker says English then ran across the street, into a field, putting his hand down his pants, gesturing he had a gun.

Mike grabbed a stick and served as back up for Trooper Becker. “I was very grateful for Mike. He put his life in danger. There were several cars that just drove on by. But mike turned around to come help me,” said Trooper Becker.

English was eventually arrested — and it was later found he was driving a stolen car. Mike was given the honorary trooper award yesterday…
