House convenes for 116th Congress; elects a new speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House and Senate convened Thursday for the 116th Congress.

On the Senate side, Vice President Mike Pence swore in a group of newly elected and returning senators.

New senators included former presidential nominee Mitt Romney representing Utah and Arizona’s first female senators Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema.

Republicans gained two seats in the Senate following last November’s election leaving the chamber at 53 Republicans and 47 Democrats.
