Josephine County Sheriff’s Office issues 17 layoff notices

Grants Pass, Ore. – Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said 17 sheriff’s office positions could be eliminated by the end of May if a $2.1 million budget shortfall isn’t addressed.

Sheriff Daniel said employee layoff notices were made to the affected employees on Monday, April 3.

There appears to be no replacement for the lost revenue. Because of this, the notices are required to be provided to employees, according to Sheriff Daniel.

The 17 employees are set to be laid off by May 31, 2017.

Sheriff Daniel wrote in part, “This would require the Sheriff’s Office patrol division to be eliminated as state mandated services such as correction and civil responsibilities.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the Josephine County corrections division will reduce inmate capacity from 130 down to 95 inmates.
