Judges consider fate of Confederate monuments in New Orleans

nc_confederatehearing0929_1500x845New Orleans, La. (WDSU) — A three-judge panel heard arguments at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday on whether the city of New Orleans should be allowed to take down the monuments.

The four statues in question honor P.G.T. Beauregard, Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and the Battle of Liberty Place.

Back in December, the City Council voted to remove the statues.

The city’s plan was to begin the removal process days after the council vote came down, but those in favor of keeping the statues up filed a lawsuit in federal court to halt their removal.
