“Line in sand” drawn in N.D. pipeline protest

nc_pipelineprotest1027_1500x845Cannon Ball, N.D. (KFYR) — Protesters blocking a North Dakota highway as part of an effort to halt construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline say their new camp is a “line in the sand”.

The new camp is on Energy Transfer Partners’ land at the site of a new roadblock that was set up over the weekend.

Wednesday, protesters burned sage, prayed and sang at the camp. They say they will not be the ones instigating violence, but they aren’t going anywhere.

“We had gotten word that they had wanted to come in and sweep the camp that had been established on 1851 Treaty territory, and we’re not going to let them sweep that camp,” says Joye Braun, Indigenous Environmental Network.
