90% of waitresses are victims of sexual harrassment

At least 90% of women in tipped positions at restaurants report being victims of some form of sexual harassment.

Thats according to a new report on the restaurant industry conducted by a non-profit restaurant workers group.

According to the report the problem is especially prevalent in states where tipped jobs pay the federal minimum wage of $2.13 an hour. It says women in those positions are expected to dress and act in ways that leave them open to harassment from co-workers, managers and customers.

The report calls for equality in the minimum wage for tipped and non-tipped positions, the National Restaurant Association has dismissed the findings of the report entitled the glass floor: sexual harassment in the restaurant industry.
