Buckskin Wildfire 50% contained

(Updated 6/24 2:47 p.m.) Josephine County, Ore. — The Buckskin Fire is now 50% contained.

The fire has burned more than 5,300 acres about 10 miles southwest of Cave Junction.

The fire growth is due to burnout operations firefighters performed yesterday, June 23rd.

That should help later in the week with the hot temperatures, low humidity and winds.

Fire officials say even when containment is at 100%, the fire is expected to continue burning until a fire season ending weather event happens in the region.
