Fire prompts death investigation in Central Point

Central Point, Ore. — A fire investigation turns into a death investigation after a body is found in a trailer

It was sometime after 6 p.m. last night at a storage lot on the 1900 block of east Gregory road in Central Point where fire district three responded to a report of a trailer on fire, while clearing the trailer, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters discovered a human body among the debris, Thats when the Jackson county medical examiner and detectives were called out.

The remains were taken to a hospital for evaluation, no identity has been released yet and a cause for the death hasn’t been determined, but JCSO says all possibilities are on the table.

NBC5 spoke to the operator of this property who says this is not a residential area and no one is allowed on the premises after closing time; he says the fire began just before the gates were to be locked for the night.

The sheriff’s office hopes to have an autopsy on the body performed next week and of course we’ll keep you up to date as this is a developing story.
