Fog Cancels and Delays Flights at Medford Airport

With the holidays quickly approaching, dense fog is giving travelers headaches.

Medford Airport Director Bern Case says “Mother nature has a lot of power but we are doing what we can with the fog.”

More than a dozen flights have been canceled or delayed at Rogue Valley International Medford Airport.

Case says they are doing everything they can do including seeding the fog, to break it up.

“We have the visibility we need now, Casper is working,” Case says.

But with the fog this thick, there’s only so much they can do. Anna tejada knows this. The Alaska Airlines passenger had her flight cancelled.

She says “I’m going to Los Angeles, it was a direct flight now I have to take this flight and go to Seattle and then go to LA, it’s gonna take 5 hours instead of two hours.”

Case hopes that will change, the colder temperatures are actually good for the airport because it allows them to seed the fog.

He says “as long as it stays cold we can do something with it if it gets above 32 degrees we’re helpless and sometimes that affects flights.”

And as the holidays draw closer, and the number of travelers increase. Helpless isn’t where case wants to be. The fog is sticking around so for those traveling tonight and tomorrow morning, you will want to stay in touch with your airline and check for any delays.
