Gas line break puts Phoenix High School on lock down

Phoenix, Ore. — Phoenix High School was on lock down Wednesday after a gas line burst right across the street.

According to Bob Holt, a Captain with Jackson County Fire District 5, Rose Street from Cheryl to Bolz Road was also closed down and homes in the immediate area were evacuated “Due to the size of the line the concern with it is is that natural gas possibly igniting or going into a structure and igniting.”

Firefighters say a construction crew struck the line while they were working around 10am Wednesday morning.

The school was on lockdown for about 45 minutes until the line was shut off.

Firefighters say no injuries were reported.
