Health officials confirm West Nile Virus death in northern California

9.28 WEST NILE DEATHButte County, Calif. — Health officials in northern California have confirmed a death from the West Nile Virus.

NBC affiliate KNVN in Redding reports the victim, a senior citizen from Butte County, began showing symptoms in late August and was confirmed to have contracted West Nile in early September.

The Department of Public Health says it’s important to take precautions to insure that you do not become ill.

The best way to prevent West Nile is to wear protective clothing, and bug spray when you are outdoors.
