Medford, Ore. — Weeks after being found guilty of murder in the 2012 death of his wife Kristy, Bourne Huddleston accepted a plea deal on a separate indictment Friday afternoon.
Huddleston plead guilty to one count of attempted aggravated murder. The charge stems from a separate indictment involving what prosecutors say was a plan to hire a hit man to kill one of the prosecution’s witnesses.
David Hoppe, a Deputy District Attorney with Jackson County said a sting operation implicated both Huddleston and his sister Florida resident Genetta Huddleston-Coradetti in the plot. The sting involved wire taps and also wire transfers of money.
The plea deal also means charges against Huddleston’s sister, will be dropped, allowing her to return to Florida on probation. However, she will still have a felony on her record.
“I am very confident that Ms. Huddleston-Coradetti will go back to Florida and lead a very normal crime-free life with her husband,” said Huddleston-Coradetti’s attorney, John Gutzbezahl.
In addition, Huddleston’s plea will result in his 10-year-old son getting $800,000 from Kristy’s life insurance policy and other federal benefits.
“After convicting him of the murder we were going to go to trial in September on this attempted aggravated murder, but instead we used whatever leverage we had so that he would take the plea deal so that we could do right by [Huddleston’s 10-year-old son],” said David Hoppe, Jackson County Deputy District Attorney.
“It doesn’t make up for losing his parents but hopefully it’ll give him somewhat of a start in life,” he continued.
The plea also means an additional 55-years in prison on top of Huddleston’s life sentence for his prior murder conviction.
