Leadership class works to build natural playground in Hawthorne Park

Medford, Ore. — Medford residents are one step closer to having a natural playground in their downtown area.

The Chamber leadership class worked to build the playground in Hawthorne Park this morning.

The playground will be natural with tree stumps and rocks to climb on, and a dry river with canoes and rowboats to play in.

“It’s something kids love to do they love to climb, they love to play in the sand, they’ll love the different balance beams and things that will be here,” said participant Bruce Hearnsberger.

The class hopes the project will be done by mid-June and says it will be a great place for kids to come use their imagination and learn about plants, bugs and other things in nature.

The playground will cover 1/3 of an acre right along Jackson street.
