Medford boy battling Leukemia

Medford, Ore — A Medford boy is still smiling even though he’s in the battle of his life.

He was diagnosed with leukemia in March and his treatments aren’t working.

Chaz Cowan is like any other three year old. Crazy about books, Mickey Mouse, and dinosaurs.

Chaz is also one of the strongest people, big or small, that you will ever meet.

“He’s great, he’s keeping us all strong through all this,” said Chaz’s mom Kristin Cowan.

That’s because three-year-old Chaz has leukemia, and the treatments aren’t working.

“When you go through chemo you’re only supposed to have a certain amount of the cancer left in your body but he had way more than what they had expected,” said Cowan.

Chaz and his parents have been back and forth from portland for treatments and testing since his March diagnosis.

Leaving Chaz’s younger brothers Zain and Hunter with family while doctors work to find a cure for Chaz.

“It’s starting to become just kind of normal for him now,” said Cowan.

Through it all, his parents say Chaz is the one keeping them strong.

“He’s feisty but he’s got a sweet heart,” said Cowan.

Chaz has another test tomorrow to determine if the three types of chemotherapy he’s currently undergoing are enough or if even more aggressive treatments are needed.
