Medford Fire investigating downtown apartment blaze

Medford, Ore. — Medford Fire and Rescue is investigating a blaze that broke out in a studio apartment this afternoon.

Batallion Chief Ron Nelson said the fire started a little after 4:00. He said a Medford Police Officer was driving by when she saw smoke coming from an apartment on North Riverside.

When the officer went into the home she found the man living there trying to put out the flames, but they were too big. They were both able to get out of the apartment without injuries.

Nelson said firefighters were able to knock down the flames within minutes. The home the apartment is connected to was threatened but did not receive any damage.

He says the fire did less than $500 worth of damage. The cause is still being investigated.
