Medical Marijuana Dispensary: Applicants from all walks of life

Medford, Ore. — As medical marijuana dispensaries are now legal, applicants from all walks of life are looking to cash-in on the growing marijuana industry.

Shady Cove resident, Kathleen Payne is one of several hundred applicants applying to the Oregon health Authority.

“It is a lot of money but I still believe that there are patients that need it.”

Payne’s dream of one day helping others find alternative medicine hangs in the balance and it isn’t cheap.

Before Payne can open her dispensary, she needs approval from the Oregon Health Authority and Jackson County.

She’s already found a land owner who will rent to her.

Ultimately, it’s the planning department who will decide if she’s able to operate

at that location. If she’s turned down, Payne will lose on the $1600 dollar non-refundable fee charged by the county.

Kathleen Payne knows she’ll need a lot more money to follow through. After all, a security system, a safe and cannabis testing equipment don’t come cheap. But she’s hopeful her plan will pan-out. After seeing how medical marijuana has helped her mother who suffers from chronic pain, she insists it’s worth it.
