Onion Mountain fire grows to 3,735 acres

Grants Pass, Ore. –Crews in Josephine county are getting a foothold on the Onion Mountain Fire.

It’s burned over 3,700 acres in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, 13 miles west of downtown Grants Pass.Containment has inched up to 5% as of Wednesday evening. Firefighters hope to get a little help from the weather as cooler temps and some precipitation are being forecasted.

All previous evacuation levels and warnings remain the same with the addition of one new area: Galice Creek Road to Soldier Camp and everything south is now also under a level one evacuation advisory.

A community meeting is scheduled for 6:30 Thursday evening at Flemming Middle School.
