Osprey relocation to shut off power for some residents in Rogue River

0222 Osprey NestRogue River, Ore. – Pacific Power crews are scheduled to shut off power to around 1,750 customers near Rogue River on Friday, in order to relocate an osprey nest and protect it from power lines.

The delicate work will occur just after midnight on February 26th. The nest sits on top of a power pole along Pine Street near the railroad tracks and I-5. Pacific Power says the interruption in power is expected to last around 4 hours. Customers who will be affected are located along Wards Creek Road, Foothill Boulevard, west on Rogue River Highway, including Savage Creek Road. Downtown Rogue River will also be affected.

Monte Mendenhall, Regional Business Manager for Pacific Power said that the short term interruption will allow the company to do what is best for the osprey, while maintaining reliability for customers.

Crews will install a permanent nesting platform 6-8 feet above the power pole, which will provide enough space for the ospreys to come and go, while keeping them away from power lines.
