Pear Blossom float honors cancer victim

Medford, Ore. — A float entered in this year’s Pear Blossom Parade honors a woman who died of cancer.

Rogue Valley woman Chela Sanchez is the co-director for Talent’s Day of the Dead Race. She and her family built a colorful float not only to bring awareness to the event, but to honor their cousin Nena who died of lung cancer.

“She’s always with us and Day of the Dead is to celebrate those passed loved ones,” Sanchez said. “If anything this is a day of celebration of her life, and what she’s meant to us and her family and friends.”

Sanchez said Nena was always a huge cheerleader and supporter of the race, and the float was a labor of love.
