Standing room only as commissioners discuss marijuana land use

Medford, Ore. —  It was standing room only at Wednesday afternoon’s Jackson County Commissioner’s land use hearing. The topic? Marijuana in Jackson County.

The commission took recommendations from the planning commission as to where people will be able to grow, manufacture, distribute, and sell medical and recreational marijuana.

Dozens of people came out to ask questions and address their concerns from the size of the plots of land that can be used to grow marijuana to how far back grows can be from property lines.

“In Jackson County, because we are an agriculture area and most growers are doing outdoor production, I think it makes sense for our county to allow for larger grow spaces,” farmer Mitra Sticklen said.

Next Wednesday’s meeting will also consist of public input. The following week the commissioners hope to vote on land use recommendations. Both meetings are at 1:30 in the Jackson County Auditorium.
