Medford shopping center gets renovation

Medford, Ore., — A local Medford shopping center is getting a face lift, to make for a nice shopping environment.

Bear Creek Plaza on the corner of Biddle and McAndrews roads has been around for about 30 years.

It is home to 27 stores and restaurants. Everyone we spoke to is in agreement, this upgrade is much needed.

Bear Creek Plaza has been in Medford for three decades and has never been renovated.

Under new ownership since September, the managing partner Dan Tucci says the plaza needs updating.

“Parts of the center look a little bit tired and there’s about 1,000 lineal feet along the main structure that needs to be modernized.”

For shoppers who frequently come here, this is the present day look, but with a $600,000 dollar make-over, the Bear Creek Plaza is getting an upgrade.

Tucci says, “This is really just an enormous amount of facade that’s out there, lightening it, demoing much of it, rebuilding it and adding towers.”

Owner Scott Keith of Northwest Outdoor Store has been in the center for seven years and says he couldn’t be happier about it the upgrade.

“Just aesthetically, it wouldn’t take a whole lot to make this plaza look a lot better. So I think when all the dust settles we’ll be very happy that it was attempted and completed.”

Local shoppers are in agreement as well. They say an upgraded facade might help attract new comers to the center.

Brooke Jaentsch says, “Maybe people passing by, or people on I-5 would see the center, and it would look nicer, and they’d be more likely to stop by.”

Richard Stroud says, “It’s probably getting to be somewhat aged and dated so I think it will be a very positive thing to have it renovated.”

Tucci says the center will start being renovated immediately and will be done in six months.

The construction will take place at night so the stores aren’t affected by it.
